The Puffin Foundation has awarded me a grant on behalf of the children of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, to supply them with fine art materials, up to $1250.00! I received the check in the mail yesterday and Chipper jumped with me shouting HURRAH!
I immediately sent an email to Gaylord Robb, my contact with the Tribe, and their Economic Development Director, and he called me soon after, our first real phone conversation. Amazing, awesome and very fun. We agreed that I would order supplies for pastels and watercolors for fifty children for the Tribe. He also said with excitement that they have applied for a local grant for space in a museum for the children to have a place to practice their art skills. Fingers crossed that that comes through.
Jason and I spoke on the phone soon thereafter and he said I should teach via video Skype from my studio using the Mac laptop. I’m also going to create at least one or two Powerpoint presentations for them. I’m bursting with excitement and energy about all of this.
I’ve also been on the phone today with my contact at Blick Art Materials, of which I am an affiliate, and where I’ll be ordering all the supplies. They’ve offered a discount, and free shipping, more details to come on this partnership.
I’ve had the wish list prepared since November of last year but it’s amazing how quickly the funds go. It’s a great list though, and I’m thrilled to be able to provide for them because of the Puffin Foundation’s generosity. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
