Cedar Breaks’ First Strokes

I took eight other photos, of the palette, the various tools, the brushes, etc., for the Paiute children’s Powerpoint, a few of which I’ll need to take over, no worries. A good start. The main thing is that I started the painting! Now, mind you, in the actual photograph there isn’t this much diversity of color right off the bat, from layer to layer. However, I can’t just, well, I could, but I can’t just paint the whole thing rust and then layer in more colors on top, because I would go a bit mad. No. It’s much more fun to mix colors and play with the thing up front, which I hadn’t really decided to do, and after the fact, I’ll make it look much more like the photo, but up front, I have to play with reds, and ochres and umbers and browns, don’t you know. Well, of course I do.

Another note, the bright I had intended to use, the one more like the brushes I got for the children, well, even the Princeton I use all the time for acrylics, well, neither was fine or tender enough for the detail I needed for this piece, so I went with a not so fine of make but fine enough for this, a Loew-Corneill (sp?) — which I usually don’t use because I’ve had hairs of them fall into my work before — eek! so hopefully that won’t happen. I pulled on it quite a bit before starting, to hopefully avoid that happening …

What a dream to mix the colors with water — stains — yum! but it wears me out and the 45 minutes it took to paint this much — and I had to rest — more for another day — this piece will take time. But I wanted to update you. I dreamed last night of painting it in colors radiating from the center to start, and it’s almost like that, although I didn’t get that far. It radiates a bit.

A lot of ups and downs today — a lot of random words and random flashbacks that make no sense to me. A bit easier to rest today tho. Wanted to swim but just couldn’t get myself out there. No email update either. More business done though, so that’s good. Felt I couldn’t do other things ’til that was done. The carpets got thoroughly cleaned and are almost dry. Yay!

Well, back to resting now. More news as I have it. Good progress today!
